Ivanovs , Janis (1906-1983)
Description:
Ivanovs' Vocalise heard in the crystal clear harmonies of the Latvian Radio Choir. Jánis Ivanovs (1906-1983) composed five symphonies in the 1960s, including the experimental and expressive No. 9 and No. 13, and is regarded as the most gifted "symphonic" writer in Latvian music history. However, he also wrote works on a smaller scale, as well as outstanding works for piano and voice. Vocalise" for a cappella mixed chorus here is "a series of warm, soothing melodies and deeply breathy harmonies, including parallel fifths, with echoes of old shepherd's songs. In addition to the standard editions of "Picture," "Cumulus," and "Fog," there is also an edition by the same Latvian composer, Imants Zemzaris (b.1951). Performed by the Grammy Award-winning Latvian Radio Choir, one of Latvia's leading choral ensembles, and conductor Sigvars Kryava. Tokyo M-Plus
