If you’ve ever been to New Mexico, you’re familiar with the something special that sets us apart- the luminarias lighting paths, green chile, piñon burning, posolé, biscochitos, besos y abrazos, making tamales, spicy hot cocoa, desert sage & sweetgrass, our painted sky sunsets, hot springs, sunlit red mesas, legacy crops, scented saunas, original and centuries old architecture, the warmth and care of our community, route 66 - so many things...
The Me Encanto New Mexico Soap Sampler melds our deeply moisturizing organic vegan soap with vivid colors, scents, and additives that are quintessentially New Mexico.
Includes one bar each of:
Jemez Rocks: If you’re not from New Mexico, chances are you don’t know about the hidden gem that is Jemez Pueblo and Springs. From the beautifully striated red rock mesas to the happily bubbling creek running through the valley, the hot springs, the mountains, and the heavily treed unique desert landscape, Jemez is the epitome of why New Mexico is called the land of enchantment.
We named this soap Jemez Rocks! Because it does and the layered design in our unique desert colors is an homage to its gorgeous geological structures.
We have woven for you an essence that brings you on a journey to the heated rocks & desert to evoke this special place. Layering in sage, clay, olive, piñon, and some secret sharpish notes - an elusive and enchanting desert vibe.
Sacred Sweetgrass: In Native American traditions, sweetgrass (Hierochloe oderata) is considered a sacred plant, representing "the hair of Mother Earth" and used to invite positive energies and ward off negativity. It grows wild in New Mexico in wetter areas is typically braided and then burned to release its sweet, earthy aroma. The smoke is used to cleanse spaces and people during spiritual rituals and prayers. Here we pair it with two tones of cool, soothing green in a repeating pattern - like a braid.
Laughing Horse Retreat Bar: The very best B&B, ever, was in Taos, NM. The Laughing Horse Inn was around for ages and was the hang out spot for all the cool NM passers through. Georgia O'Keefe, Frida (would have and should have) D.H. Lawrence, and such. Behind a coyote fence, a big sprawling hacienda built in many phases. Cozy loft rooms with beds built right up to the vigas, skylights scant inches above you into the night sky, kiva fireplaces, saltillo tiles, adobe benches filled with mother-in-laws tongue lined a greenhouse walkway around the house wall. An unforgettable vibe. Amazing.
One of the suites had a sauna and they would burn piñon in it and throw eucalyptus water in the steamer. Heaven on a winter night with giant snowflakes falling, running back and forth from that to the hot tub outside. I am so sad to say that The Laughing Horse Inn closed. 😓
This soap? Smells like that sauna, tho. Fresh chopped rosemary from my mom's garden in the foothills of the Sandia mountains and a heady blend of several mints in goat's milk. Enchanting. Don't miss out on the opportunity to enjoy this special experience.
Blue Corn y Comunidad: Scented of lemongrass & mint in cornflower blue, blended with perfectly exfoliating local blue corn meal, a unique regional legacy crop, speaks to the importance of community and the relationship between the old and the new, the warmth of which is a hallmark of our home.
Bourbonilla: The spicy aroma of Kentucky bourbon dances subtly with rich, sweet vanilla in an enticing combination. We were thinking to call this Bourbonilla - like Nilla short for VAnilla, but this is New Mexico and when you write it together it says Bourbonilla - like Neeya. Because Spanish. So call it whatever, just don't call it late for cocktail hour.
Mexican Mocha: Spicy cinnamon mocha; this fantastical bar of soap not only looks and smells just like it, but is nourishing for your skin, too! Made with real cocoa powder and a sprinkle of sparkly "cinnamon." Yum! Also, don't lick soap.
Lone Pinon: Pinon is a southwestern nut tree and one of the unofficial signature fragrances of New Mexico. The enticing aroma of pinon fires wafting through crisp air is a sure sign fall has arrived. Smoky, pine-ish, unique and warming.
