Pusher (1996) is a Danish crime thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn in his feature debut. Set in Copenhagen’s criminal underworld, the film follows Frank, a mid-level drug dealer whose life spirals out of control after a heroin deal goes awry. When the police intervene, Frank discards the drugs to avoid arrest, leaving him indebted to his supplier, Milo. With time running out, Frank’s desperation leads him through a series of increasingly perilous situations as he attempts to repay his debt, revealing the gritty realities of the drug trade. The film is noted for its raw, documentary-style cinematography and intense performances, particularly by Kim Bodnia as Frank. Pusher was both a critical and commercial success, spawning two sequels and establishing Refn’s reputation in international cinema.
