Graceful, intricate and full of character, our Cambria Orchids offer a more unusual alternative to the classic moth orchid. These Oncidium-type hybrids produce elegant, star-shaped blooms in painterly shades of bright pink through to deep purple, each flower uniquely patterned with delicate markings and contrasting lips.

No two are exactly alike. Colours vary within this rich pink–purple spectrum, and each plant will be carefully selected for you at random. We always choose a beautiful, healthy specimen with strong buds or blooms.

Unlike the more familiar moth orchid, Cambria orchids have a slightly more architectural feel. Their flower spikes rise from rounded pseudobulbs at the base of the plant – small swollen growths that store water and energy, helping the plant rebloom with good care.

Long-lasting and surprisingly easy to grow in a bright room, they make a thoughtful gift or an elegant statement for your own home.

Each plant comes in a nursery pot, ready to place into your favourite decorative planter.

Scientific Name
Oncidium Alliance Hybrid (massed or swollen, referring to the bulb-like growths)

Many orchids formerly sold as Odontoglossum were reclassified into Oncidium following taxonomic revisions in the early 2000s.

Synonyms
Formerly labelled as Odontoglossum hybrids
Often sold in the trade as “Cambria”

Common Name
Cambria Orchid, Oncidium-Type Orchid

Origin
Hybrid orchids derived from species native to the cloud forests of Central and South America, particularly Colombia and Ecuador.

Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. A position near an east or north-facing window works well. Avoid strong midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. If leaves become very dark green, the plant may benefit from slightly more light.

Water
Water thoroughly when the top half of the potting mix feels dry. These orchids prefer to dry slightly between waterings but should not remain completely dry for extended periods. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Never allow the pot to sit in water.

Humidity
Prefers moderate humidity. In drier homes, especially during winter heating season, place the pot on a pebble tray with water beneath it, ensuring the base of the pot is not sitting directly in water. Avoid misting directly into the centre of the plant.

Soil
Use a specialist orchid bark mix that allows airflow around the roots. Repot every 2 to 3 years after flowering, or when the bark begins to break down.

Food
Feed with a balanced orchid fertiliser every 2 to 3 waters during the growing season. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers cooler household temperatures between 16 and 22°C. Avoid placing near radiators, fireplaces or cold draughts.

Pet-safe
Generally considered non-toxic, but not intended for consumption.

Sprouts Top Tips
After flowering, cut the spent spike back to the base and continue caring for the plant as normal. Healthy new growth from the base will eventually produce the next flower spike.

Extras
Cambria orchids grow from pseudobulbs, small rounded swellings at the base of the plant that store water and nutrients to support future blooms.

Did You Know?
The name Odontoglossum comes from Greek and means “tooth tongue”, referring to the tooth-like structure found on the lip of the original species.
