This is a classic Great Britain One Penny Red stamp, issued between 1854 and 1857 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Printed in a rich red shade, it features the iconic side profile of the young Queen within a lined background, flanked by star corners and check letters (“N–G” in this example) for plate identification. This stamp belongs to the perforated series (perf 14), which replaced the imperforate Penny Reds. Heavily postmarked with a black numeral cancellation, it reflects genuine postal use. A historic successor to the famous 1840 Penny Black, it remained a backbone of Victorian postal history.
