Did you as a child see the TV series Black Sheep Squadron? Bring this Vought F4U-1A Corsair plane to your home with this beautiful gouache.
It is a homage to Lt. Ike Kepford of the VF-17 Squadron who was flying this plane on the Gilbert Islands, Pacific in February 1944. You can see how successful he was by the number of Japanese flags below his cockpit.
The Corsair was designed as a carrier fighter but commonly used as a land based fighter in the Pacific. It was one of the first to be superior to the Mitsubishi Zero. The Corsair was fast, strongly built, well armoured, heavily armed and could climb fast and dive hard.
