A charming late 19th / early 20th century French florist’s work table retaining its original zinc top and matching zinc drawer handles, a classic feature of practical workshop and market furniture of the period.

Crafted in painted pine, the table has a simple provincial form with two drawers to the front and stands on slender tapered legs finished with traditional metal sabots. Circa 1900. The hand-fitted zinc top, secured with small tacks around the edge, has developed a beautifully soft patina over time. The drawers retain their original zinc handles, chosen for their resistance to moisture in working environments such as florist shops and market stalls. The painted pine base shows gentle layers of wear, revealing the timber beneath and giving the piece the kind of authentic character that only age can create. Raised on tapered legs terminating in protective metal sabots, the table reflects the practical design of early French shop furniture, intended to withstand damp stone floors and daily use. Originally used by florists for preparing and arranging bouquets, the durable zinc surface provided a hygienic and water-resistant working area. Today, the piece lends itself beautifully to modern interiors — ideal as a console table, kitchen preparation table, or display piece in a hallway, garden room, or retail setting.

A wonderfully atmospheric example of French utilitarian furniture, prized for its understated elegance, honest patina and decorative versatility.
