The Berlin Philharmonic Recordings "Furtwängler Reichstag (RRG) Archive 1939-45" (KKC-5952/22 SACD Hybrid), which was released at the end of 2018, is a collection of recordings made by the German Reichstag during the war years (1939-45) of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Furtwängler Orchestra. The "Berlin Philharmonic Furtwängler-45" (KKC-5952/22 SACD Hybrid) is a set of all existing broadcast recordings by the Berlin Philharmonic and Furtwängler made by the German Imperial Radio during the war (1939-45), and was set under the best possible conditions based on the original tapes. The Berliner Philharmoniker himself has selected recordings of particularly outstanding repertoire, performance, and sound quality from the recordings released in the SACD Hybrid box, and has now released an 8 LP box! Cutting is by Sidney Clare Meyer of the Emil Berliner Studio. He has previously produced the Berliner Philharmoniker & Haitink's Bruckner Symphony No. 7 (sold out) and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra & Frascha's Smetana's My Homeland (sold out).The masters for the LP were not direct transfers from the original analog tapes, but were created from mastered material that was done for the earlier SACD box release; most of the sound on the SACD is from tapes returned in 1987 and 1991, newly sampled by the Berlin Philharmonic at 28bit and remastered at 24bit. The details of the mastering of the SACD are detailed by recording producer Christoph Franke in a video from the release press conference in Berlin in 2019. Christoph Franke explains in detail. The commentary includes a fascinating history of the recording, from its postwar seizure by the Soviet military to the return of the copies and the discovery of the master tapes (Japanese translation included).
