“Gem” sized tintype photos are smaller than a postage stamp, and were popular during the 1860s-1870s. Of the various shapes and sizes of gem albums made, this is an example of the smallest, with room for just one tiny photo per page. Sometimes they are called “fairy albums.”
This one is just under 2” tall & has a leather binding. Condition is good overall with some issues: There is a split between the first two pages, some minor tears, and some pages that are hard to open all the way due to an old glue repair. As with miniature books, the bindings of these albums are notoriously fragile because of the small size. Missing its clasp. Sold at a lower price as is.
