“Lover’s Eyes” are portrait miniatures in jewelry exchanged as romantic keepsakes in the early 19th century. They depict just the eye of the beloved, and so are associated with clandestine romances. They were a real flash-in-the-pan trend and only among a very small group of privileged participants, so real lovers eyes are very scarce, prohibitively expensive, & widely faked.
