2 Tone is a music genre that emerged in the UK in the late 1970s, & was a fusion of elements of Ska, Punk, Rocksteady, Reggae & New Wave. When considering the history of the development of the ska-genre, 2 tone is considered to be its’ second wave. This is also regarded as the precursor to the third wave ska-scene of the 1980s & 1990s. Bands considered to be part of the genre include The Specials, The Selecter & Bad Manners in the UK & The Untouchables in the US. The term ‘2 tone’ was coined by the Specials’ keyboardist Jerry Dammers. He was also partly responsible for the iconic Walt Jabsco logo which appeared on album sleeves & posters. The main 2 tone record labels were 2 Tone Records, Go Feet Records & Stiff Records.
