Maurice Bourgue was the Principal Oboe of the Orchestre de Paris from 1967 to 1979, and taught at the International Academy of Chamber Music in Weg and the Geneva Conservatory, as well as giving master classes all over the world. This is a reissue of the famous recording of the Maurice Bourg Wind Octet (2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons), formed by Bourg in 1972 with members of the Orchestre de Paris. This album combines Gounod's "Petite Symphonie" (Woodwind Quintet), dedicated to the "Society for Chamber Music in Woodwind" founded by Paul Taffanel, the "father of the modern flute," to enrich the repertoire of woodwind instruments, and "Songs and Dances" commissioned by the same society by Dandy. This is a must-have disc for French music fans that brings to the present day the richly colored, mellow sound and virtuosity of the masters of yesteryear, who are arguably the founders of the traditional French sound.
